LONDON (AFP).- British artist Tracey Emin has unveiled her latest artwork: a bright pink homage to Europe at St Pancras station in London -- Britain's rail gateway to the continent. Emin, one of country's most famous living artists, said she conceived the 20-metre-long text-based work, "I Want My Time With You", as a response to Brexit. The installation -- bright neon letters spelling out the phrase -- is suspended from the ceiling inside the cavernous Victorian era station facing trains arriving from continental Europe. "Essentially, it is a great subliminal message sent out to the rest of Europe... I want my time with Europe," she told reporters at Monday's unveiling. DALLAS, TX.- A rare post-war French release double grande poster from Casablanca soared to $143,400, helping Heritage Auctions' Movie Posters Auction reach $1,958,775 in total sales. A film that was made with the hope of creating a successful war drama only to evolve into a beloved classic is represented beautifully in this Casablanca (Warner Brothers, 1947) First Post-War French Release Double Grande, which drew multiple bids before ultimately selling for $143,400. This poster is extraordinarily rare, one of just two known to exist anywhere, and features artwork believed to have been done by Hervé Morvan, the popular 20th-century poster artist. "This auction contained a variety of desirable posters for collectors of all tastes," Heritage Auctions Vintage Posters Director Grey Smith said. NEW CANAAN, CONN.- The Glass House continues our ongoing commitment to architecture and the arts with the replacement of the entire ceiling of the iconic structure. The Glass House, completed in 1949, is one of 14 structures on the 49-acre site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In recent years, the ceiling of the Glass House was sagging in several areas. In 2015, the ceiling was stabilized where the decoupling from its support was most significant while a study was performed to identify the optimal repair process. Upon visual inspection, the system attaching the ceiling to the roof timbers was noted to be poorly constructed. Almost half of the ceiling was compromised. The 1,800 square foot plaster ceiling was applied in a three-coat plaster system on lath with the top coat being a self-colored plaster mixed with asbestos with a texture to appear like exterior stucco. SARASOTA, FLA.- Baal & Yizhaq, a striking Bronze, Boulder and Bluestone sculpture created by world-acclaimed artist Boaz Vaadia was unveiled today as the newest addition to Sarasotas public art program. The 4,000 lb. multi-layered sculpture depicts two men gazing straight-ahead, one standing with right leg resting on a large stone, the other sitting, both with arms crossed. The project was made possible by the efforts and unique financial commitment by three entities; the City of Sarasota, developer Dr. Mark Kauffman and Alfstad& Contemporary art gallery to buy the $200,000 sculpture. The groups split the cost of the sculpture three ways. Kauffman also donated part of his Ringling Boulevard property to the city, and covered the cost of installing the statue on that land. LONDON.- The first London exhibition devoted to the Scottish photographer John Thomson (1837-1921) and his photography in Asia will be shown from 13 April-23 June 2018 at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS. Thomsons photography of China, Siam (Thailand) and Cambodia was widely praised by his peers and continues to enthuse new audiences today. The images are from newly discovered negatives held at the Wellcome Library, London. John Thomson (18371921) was a Scottish photographer and writer who set off for Asia in 1862. Over the next ten years he undertook numerous journeys photographing countries including Siam, Cambodia and various provinces of China. Photographs from these journeys form one of the most extensive records of any region taken in the nineteenth century. LONDON.- The Approach presents Serpentine, an exhibition of new collage works from Danish artist Evren Tekinoktay. The works in the show have a close relationship to Tekinoktays iconic neon sculptures, reminiscent of carnivals and Red-Light Districts. Translated from original sketches for the neons into painted paper cut-outs, the collages retain the same sense of energy, movement and vibrancy as the neons. Their geometric patterns and arrangements are offered up as rebuses, puzzles where words are replaced by images, symbols and letters. Tekinoktays work often plays off concepts surrounding the construction of gender and so the show title, Serpentine, connotes a multitude of ideas, visual images and historical references. PARIS.- Two dinosaur skeletons marketed as hip design objects-- one of a diplodocus, the other of an allosaurus -- sold for more than 1.4 million euros ($1.7 million) apiece at auction in Paris on Wednesday. "The same foreign buyer acquired the two dinosaurs," the Drouot auction house said, hailing "exceptional" prices for dinosaurs, though neither was a record. The diplodocus -- a herbivorous giant measuring 12 metres long from nose to tail -- fetched 1.44 million euros, compared with 1.41 million for the carnivorous allosaurus, a minnow in dinosaur terms at just 3.8 metres (12.5 feet) long. The two dinosaurs roamed the Earth during the late Jurassic period, around 150 million years ago. LONDON.- Parafin announces an exhibition with Syrian artist Sara Naim (born 1987, London). It will be Naims first solo show with the gallery and follows on from her participation in Secular Icons in an Age of Moral Uncertainty in 2017. Naim is known primarily as a photographic artist but in fact makes much of her work using a Transmission Electronic Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope and a high-resolution Flatbed Scanner. Robert Delaunay (12 April 1885 - 25 October 1941) was a French artist who, with his wife Sonia Delaunay and others, co-founded the Orphism art movement, noted for its use of strong colours and geometric shapes. His later works were more abstract, reminiscent of Paul Klee. His key influence related to bold use of colour and a clear love of experimentation with both depth and tone.
