As Brazils first indigenous art curator, the 45-year-old educator, who grew up with the Guaranà Ãandeva people in the village of Porto Lindo, wants to use art to bridge the gap between indigenous Brazilians and those from other backgrounds. She is searching for a way to show their commonality and is looking to represent many of her countrys 305 ethnic groups in Indigenous Stories, a yearlong exhibition of global indigenous art set to take place at the Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand, known as MASP, in 2021. That shared thread, she said, will come in examples of storytelling and the profound connection all indigenous Brazilians have to their land. That attribute might have helped propel the carnivore to the top of the food chain, researchers suggest. A study published earlier this month in PLOS One showed that some dinosaurs were particularly efficient walkers because of their long hind limbs. NEW YORK (NYT NEWS SERVICE).- Rafael Leonardo Black, a self-trained artist who spent more than 40 years creating elaborate pictorial mythologies steeped in art history and popular culture, and who had his first New York gallery show at 64, died May 15 in Brooklyn. He was 71. The cause was complications of COVID-19, said Francis Naumann, the art dealer who represented him. Blacks 2013 debut, at Francis Naumann Fine Art in Manhattan, consisted of collagelike pencil drawings of historically diverse figures and scenes brought together under umbrella themes. The work was so minutely detailed that the gallery provided magnifying glasses to view it. The small yet significant watercolour shows the interiors of the grand entrance hall in 1812, revealing how West Dean House, now home to the College, would have looked after James Wyatt extended the property in the early 1800s. The significance of the work lies in the new understanding it brings to Wyatt scholarship, the study of historic interiors, and the fascinating story of the Colleges past. At the time the watercolour was painted, West Dean was the seat of the Peachey Family. James Peachey (c.1732-1808) had been made 1st Lord Selsey by Charles III and shortly after commissioned leading architect of the time James Wyatt to extend the West Dean Manor House. ANTWERP.- Alltubes is a new series of objects consisting of repeated round aluminium tubes. The series comprises several cabinets, a bench and a chair and forms a family that has the same genes but different characters. It is the repetition of the aluminium tubes that recurs in all the objects. The pattern and repetition of the round forms makes them appear less austere. This also produces the undulating effect and makes it possible for light to play on the surface. The combination of several of the same elements creates planes and gives the whole object a literal and figurative strength. With the series of tube-ends at the top, the upper surface of the cabinets assumes a charming aspect. Functions are created by means of the occasional simple bend such as for the legs of the bench.
