PARIS.- The Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée national Picasso-Paris organized a joint event dedicated to Miquel Barceló. Numerous pieces, never-presented before, allow visitors to discover the Majorcan artists universe. Paintings and ceramics are presented at the Musée national Picasso-Paris while the engraved works are put on display at the BnF. Miquel Barcelós engraved works that stand as a major part of the artists production are rarely presented. The artist, painter, sculptor and ceramist, has also been trying his hand at printing techniques since the beginning of his career. NEW YORK, NY.- Taka Ishii Gallery New York is presenting the first solo exhibition in New York of Kimiyo Mishima, the prominent Japanese contemporary artist. On view are eight paintings executed from 1960 to 1966, a time when movements such as Art Informel, Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art exerted a significant influence on Japanese artists. Responding to these movements, from the 1950s and into the 1960s, Mishima established her own style and invoked techniques such as collage and repetitive imagery to create signature works. John Wood the Elder's drawing instruments return to Bath
BATH.- Bath Preservation Trust has revealed that it was the mystery purchaser of John Wood the Elders set of drawing instruments, which were sold at Clevedon Auction Rooms last week. The set was acquired for a total price of £26,000 with support from the Art Fund, the V&A Purchase Grant Fund and several local donors. John Wood the Elder was an English architect who worked mainly in Bath and was responsible for establishing the citys unique architectural style. Some of his individual buildings attracted attention, such as the Royal Mineral Water Hospital, but he was most highly regarded for his planning of streets and housing. His drawing tools are engraved with Woods coat of arms and were made by Thomas Heath, the leading 18th-century maker of drawing instruments developed specifically for architects.
