BUENOS AIRES (CTYS-UNLAM).- Because of its tremendous resemblance, paleontologists thought of naming this new species in allusion to Scrat, the renowned squirrel-like character with saber teeth in the movie, Ice Age. Although they finally named it Pseudotherium argentinus, meaning, false Theria from Argentina. The entire skull is less than six centimeters in length and was found in Ischigualasto with two of the oldest dinosaurs known to date. The Tower of Trigonion having built in the second half of the 15th century aand it was used as an armory and an artillery tower. It was strategically placed to the precise location of the walls that had to absorb most of the pressure during a siege or raid. The Upper Town , the only part of the city that survived the big fire of 1917, preserves much of the Byzantine and Ottoman era city fabric. Thus it features small stone-paved streets, old squares and houses in traditional Greek and Ottoman architecture. WASHINGTON (AFP).- Robert Ballard, the underwater explorer who found the Titanic, has a new quest -- searching for the plane of famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart, who disappeared over the Pacific in 1937. National Geographic said Ballard plans to leave from Samoa on August 7 to carry out the hunt with his state-of-the-art research vessel E/V Nautilus. National Geographic said it plans to film the expedition and air a documentary about it on its television channel on October 20. Earhart went missing while on a pioneering round-the-world flight with navigator Fred Noonan. SALZBURG (AFP).- Opera legend Placido Domingo on Sunday received a standing ovation at the Salzburg Festival, his first performance since he was accused of sexually harassing women. Now Louie Kemp has released a backstage pass of sorts into the mythology of Dylan, in the form of a memoir released this week, dishing on everything from the folk hero's Passover Seder meal with Marlon Brando to his own food fight at a Chinese restaurant with Joan Baez. The duo first met in northern Wisconsin in 1953, when Dylan was still Bobby Zimmerman, 12 years old, his guitar already attached as if a limb. FERRISBURGH.- Structures define our world. Some of us live among skyscrapers, row houses, condominiums. In Ver mont, many of us live among houses and barns. Rokeby Museum, a National Historic Landmark, is a collection of houses, barns, and outbuildings that served a variety of ends. The exhibition temporarily repurposes these historic spaces as platforms for contemporary art and asks the viewer to contemplate the role that structures play in shaping our experience of the world and how structures can inform and shape the experience of others. PARIS.- The work of Katsunobu Yaguchi, a Japanese artist, reflects his passion for repurposing objects and places that would otherwise have been abandoned, lost or discarded. He pays particular attention to townscapes, old houses, and traditions that are decaying. Since 2008, Katsunobu Yaguchi has confined himself into his own project, titled Café Washingtown, which was initiated by reinventing an old abandoned house, found in Mito City, in Ibaraki, Japan, as a café and a community hub where local residents come to connect, share, and create together. The house, a two-story building, was built from scrap wood and other salvaged materials, and by the late owners hands in the aftermath of World War II. National Air and Space Museum renovation update; museum remains open during construction
WASHINGTON, DC.- The Smithsonians National Air and Space Museums renovation of the building on the National Mall continues with artifact moves and significant changes to the Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall. The North American X-15 will be the first major artifact to be lowered and removed from the museums main hall. Visitors will continue to see changes as other artifacts shift and move over the next few months. These adjustments will prepare the space for the construction of a large wall to divide and close the Independence Avenue side of the Hall, the Barron Hilton Pioneers of Flight Gallery and the Albert Einstein Planetarium. GUADALAJARA (AFP).- Nearly 900 people twirled and stamped their feet to mariachi music in the Mexican city of Guadalajara to set a Guinness record for the world's biggest folk dance. Searing heat failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the 882 men and women, who turned up Saturday in traditional costumes featuring vivid embroidery and bright colors to break the previous record, also set in Guadalajara in 2011 with 457 participants. "This new record shows that our traditions are continuing to spread among young people," Xavier Orendain, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Guadalajara and the event's organizer, told reporters. Flashback On a day like today, Mexican painter Rufino Tamayo was born August 26, 1899. Rufino Tamayo (August 26, 1899 - June 24, 1991) was a Mexican painter of Zapotec heritage, born in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. Tamayo was active in the mid-20th century in Mexico and New York, painting figurative abstraction with surrealist influences. In this image: Rufino Tamayo's painting "Sandias" or "Watermelons'' is seen in this undated picture. Mexico put out an international alert Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999 for 12 paintings that were stolen from an exhibition last week, including "Sandias" by one of Mexico's most famous painters. The paintings, on loan from private art collectors in Mexico, the United States and Europe, were part of a 43-canvas show the gallery organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Tamayo's birth.
