CHICAGO, IL.- Hindman presents a rare collection of photographs by Eugène Atget, a pioneer of photography, whose documentary vision of Paris was highly influential to artists across the globe, inspiring everyone from Man Ray to Ansel Adams. Originally owned by American photographer Berenice Abbott, an early champion of Atget, these photographs were then in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York before finding their way to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. This 42-lot auction on December 6 is a stunning display of Atgets ability to capture Pariss rapidly changing architecture and culture in the early 20th century. With an 81% sell-through of 475 lots there were strong prices for a large group of rugs and carpets from the Collection of Barry MacLean which realized a total of $82,400; a fine quality but overlooked Qing Dynasty porcelain Jue which sold for $43,750, far exceeding its $200-300 estimate; a selection of Art Nouveau Glass from a West Coast Collector that realized $35,400 and Marine, a beautiful maritime painting by Henry Moret topped the results, fetching $78,500. NEW YORK, NY.- Christine McVie, the singer, songwriter and keyboardist who became the biggest hitmaker for Fleetwood Mac, one of musics most popular bands, died on Wednesday. She was 79. Her family announced her death on Facebook. The statement said she died at a hospital but did not specify its location or give the cause of death. In June, McVie told Rolling Stone that she was in quite bad health and that she had endured debilitating problems with her back. McVies commercial potency, which hit a high point in the 1970s and 80s, was on full display on Fleetwood Macs Greatest Hits anthology, released in 1988, which sold more than 8 million copies: She either wrote or co-wrote half of its 16 tracks. Among this exhibition of 18 vintage silver gelatin prints count his most iconic sculptures as well as still lifes and a portrait. This is the first commercial exhibition of Brancusis photography in German-speaking Switzerland in nearly forty years since the landmark solo museum shows of his photography at Kunsthaus Zürich in 1977 and Fotostiftung Schweiz in 1987. Dr. Binstock will begin his appointment on March 1, 2023, following eight years as the Mary W. and Donald R. Clark Director of the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) of the University of Rochester in New York. Binstock will succeed Dr. Dorothy Kosinski, who is stepping down after 15 years of distinguished leadership and advancement. Dalton Paulas portraits of figures in the black community close to his home in Goiâna are paired with histories of 18th and 19th Afro-Brazilians who were never visually depicted in their lifetime. Flashback On a day like today, French painter Georges Seurat was born December 02, 1859. Georges-Pierre Seurat (2 December 1859 - 29 March 1891) was a French post-Impressionist painter and draftsman. He is noted for his innovative use of drawing media and for devising the painting techniques known as chromoluminarism and pointillism. Seurat's artistic personality was compounded of qualities which are usually supposed to be opposed and incompatible: on the one hand, his extreme and delicate sensibility; on the other, a passion for logical abstraction and an almost mathematical precision of mind.
