Every client who walks into my office is looking for the ONE THING that will make all the difference in their ability to attract high-quality clients. They want the magic strategy to help them grow their revenue on demand.Â
While pointing to one specific strategy is impossible (it takes many things operating in concert to make a sound business development system), one quality separates WINNERS from LOSERS.
This one quality exists in sports, business, and life. That quality is the intensity of effort you bring to the task.
When my son, Nick, was eight years old, he began practicing martial arts. He studied Kenpo Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He loved the discipline and the environment, and he asked to take lessons and spar six days per week.Â
After one year, the school owner asked Nick if he wanted to compete in tournaments against other kids in his age and skill classification. The owner explained that this required a different degree of effort. It meant training for endurance (running) and strength training as well as sparring and learning advanced techniques.Â
Nick agreed to the new training regimen. He ran three miles each day. He lifted weights and did agility exercises. He sparred with kids who were bigger and faster. And he sacrificed time with friends to train.Â
At age eleven, Nick's hard work paid off. He was ranked number one in his weight class in Florida for an entire year, winning six tournaments and finishing second in four.Â
Aside from bragging about my son, the purpose of this story is to demonstrate the value of maximum effort and draw a parallel to the effort you put into your business development activity.Â
If we examine two professionals doing the same activity - one successful at client attraction and one unsuccessful - we'll find the difference between success and failure lies in the intensity of the effort.Â
All of us have the same tools available - speaking, writing, and networking - yet the top one percent - those who are successful - bring a higher level of intensity to their effort.Â
Let's look at networking as an example. I belong to the ProVisors business networking community. This community offers the opportunity to attend meetings each day, every week. Members are encouraged to follow up and meet with other members after the formal sessions.Â
Most members attend one meeting each month and follow up with one or two people they meet. The most successful members attend an average of six sessions each month and follow up with an average of eighteen people.Â
The difference between success and failure is EFFORT.
 If you want to grow your revenue and you decide to work with me, you need to bring two things to the table: 1) An open mind and 2) A willingness to apply MAXIMUM EFFORT to the work we do together.
There's little difference in the success formula in martial arts, parenting, and client attraction. If you have resources you can call upon to teach you the necessary skills, you only need to be receptive to the guidance and apply it with intensity.Â
You need not wonder why some people are successful at business development while others are not. The answer is within you. You either apply it or you don't
