Gaslighting is a manipulation tactic that gradually makes you question your own judgment, feelings and reality. Gaslighters make you second-guess yourself and your interpretation of events, breaking down your confidence over time. It can be hard for victims to recognize that they’re being gaslit, so we asked therapists for 6 common phrases gaslighters often use, starting with, “That never happened.”

LOL Our series “How To Talk To Just About Anyone” is coming to a close, but before we wrap it up, I wanted to call out this story: What to do if someone is lying to your face. Ooof, awkward. The truth is, we all lie more than you might expect — and not all lies are malicious in nature. A study conducted at the University of Massachusetts found that 60% of people lied at least once during a 10-minute conversation, and that they lied more when they were told to appear likeable and competent. Is it ever worth calling someone out for lying, and how can you do so tactfully?
