When my kids were little, we used to have a great travel card game, "Are We There Yet?" where you got a point when you spotted what's on your card. When I was little, my sister and I just punched each other in the arm when we saw VW Beetles or Woody Wagons, those station wagons with wood on the side.
 
My arm hurts when I read Katherine's suggestion to "do it the old-fashioned way and use games and books to entertain your child" and wonder if this ship hasn't already sailed. Surely the little geniuses could be looking up information about where you are or where you are going. I would think that screens are really useful when you are on the road, a window to beyond what's just visible from the highway.
