I thought with all the bad news about artificial intelligence (AI) destroying existing jobs left and right, maybe there was a bright side. AI is creating new opportunities — and, wow, do they pay well!

Here are a few interesting positions to check out.

Research Scientist, Machine Learning: Up to $370,000 (San Francisco)

OpenAI is the company behind ChatGPT, and, yep, they’re hiring an experienced machine learning researcher. Pay range: $200,000 to $370,000, plus perks like insurance for your whole family and unlimited time off. Yes, you read that right. Unlimited time off doesn’t usually mean it, as friends in the tech world have told me who have that perk.

Natural Language Processing: Up to $190,000 (Remote)

GEICO is hiring a Data Scientist focused on Natural Language Processing with “experience and passion for innovation at the intersection of data experimentation and marketing.” The job pays $120,000 to $190,000. I wonder if you get to meet the GEICO Gecko.

Artificial Intelligence Researcher: Up to $240,000 (Remote)

ShortList Recruitment is looking for an AI researcher. Their client is one of the “leading Artificial Intelligence Research companies in the U.S.” The remote role has a $200,000 to $240,000 base salary.

Prompt Engineer & Librarian: Up to $375,000 (San Francisco)

AI safety and research company Anthropic is looking for the right person to develop best practices, build a library of prompts to accomplish tasks, create tutorials and work directly with customers. Expected salary range: $280,000 to $375,000 plus equity. I like prompts.

SpinOK is not OK

CloudSEK found 101 apps loaded with SpinOK malware on the Google Play Store. Only about half have been removed. It can cause lots of mischief in the background, like uploading your files or copying stuff from your clipboard (think login credentials).

Enjoy these ads (you won’t)

Bitdefender found 60,000 Android apps carrying adware that hides out and bombards you with pop-ups. Bonus: Hackers can redirect you to other types of malware.

The impacted apps include “free” versions of games that cost money, fake Netflix apps, YouTube apps without ads, TikTok apps without ads, and cracked weather apps and PDF viewers.

🕵️‍♀️ Tell this one to the kids. What do you call the suit James Bond wears? Spyware.

Feeling down? I’ve got just the thing: Puppies! Celebrity magician John Stressel doesn’t just use his gifts of illusion to make money. He takes his act on the road to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in New Jersey.

🎩 He makes toys and treats disappear, and the dogs go nuts for it. Their reactions are so cute, it helps them get adopted.

Here’s how you know John’s a good guy: He’s super allergic to dogs, has to take four or five antihistamines, and still leaves with hives. He says it’s worth it to help the dogs find homes.

Meanwhile, Alexa can’t figure out the right light to turn off.

💰 The answer: Nashville, Tennessee. I never would have guessed that one. Did you get it right? A 10-kilometer (6.21-mile) ride will set you back $34.63. In NYC, it’s 11 cents more. No. 3 on the list is Denver, Colorado. You’ll find cheap fares in El Paso, Texas, and Detroit, Michigan.

I tried to be an Uber driver, but it didn’t work out for me. My passengers didn’t appreciate it when I went the extra mile.
