| Apple Japan Gathered Footage of MacBooks Across Anime and Turned It Into an Ad | |
| | Sometimes, an Apple is a Pear. One of the joys of seeing popular tech pop up in pop culture is watching how TV or movie prop teams mess with brand logos—often turning Apple's iconic symbol into something just slightly off-brand. (Which iCarly fan didn't want a Pear laptop?) I've always assumed companies hated to see it, given that it was obviously aimed at masking and diluting their brands, albeit half-assedly. But Apple, it appears, is OK with the occasional fauxgo. (I'm not going to Google that word, because I'd like to believe I made it up just now.) Apple Japan's newest spot, an extension of the Behind the Mac campaign, compiles scenes where the MacBook appeared in anime shows and films. It's a fun watch, whether you're an anime fan or just enjoy seeing how the worlds of fiction and brand marketing occasionally collide. If you are an anime fan, btw, drop me a note at the email below or at @Griner on Twitter letting me know where I should get started. I loved Attack on Titan, but I'm willing to give non-cannibalism-themed shows a chance too. But no faux-Android-device cameos, please. I'm a blue-message anime guy all the way.
