| Good evening, While we have all been concerning ourselves with the Plan B Covid restrictions and the goings-on in Downing Street, there is another tragedy unfolding right under our noses. Last month, we reported on a number of cases of Bird Flu which had been appearing across the county. The swans in Stanley Park in Blackpool were the first sign that something was wrong, when several were found dead. That then spread to Lytham, Clifton, Lancaster and beyond. Now 21 swans in Stanley Park alone have died, poultry farms have been told to take precautions with their birds and some farmers have lost their entire stock. Here in Lancashire we have a number of wildfowl reserves which attract thousands of wintering birds. This is a magnificent sight and yet it is possible that the deadly disease may have been brought into the country by one or more of these wandering birds which we give a home to every year. It seems birds, like humans, are not immune to the scourge of a virus which is almost impossible to stop in its tracks. Until next time, take care, Gillian Want to see fewer ads?
