Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider Newsletter for Tuesday, October 4. At least, I think that's what day it is. Our Saints crew is back in New Orleans after a week in London that didn't go the way the Saints hoped it would. New Orleans doesn't have much time to put that loss behind them — or for that matter, to recover from the jet lag of two trans-Atlantic flights in the span of a week. While a few of us were in the air today, our beat writer Terrin Waack spoke to Saints coach Dennis Allen in New Orleans to look back at where things went wrong — and also to analyze a few things that went right. Let's start with what went ... okay. Andy Dalton started in place of the injured Jameis Winston at quarterback, and he turned in a solid (if unspectacular) start — which is probably all you can ask of the backup quarterback. Still, Dalton was wishing he had one play back. Speaking of Dalton and Winston, Allen did not provide any sort of indication on who will start this coming week's game against the Seattle Seahawks. That process will continue to play out this week. There were a lot of ways the game got away from the Saints in London, but the stuff that stuck with Allen Monday afternoon were the penalties that allowed Minnesota to score the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. Or, maybe, it was the two fumbles. As usual, Terrin put what happened last week under the statistical eye. Thanks for following along. We'll stay on top of things as the Saints try to figure out how to right the ship. Cheers, Luke Johnson |
