| Hello. Today Sarah Rainsford is in Romania to report on new charges against self-proclaimed misogynist Andrew Tate. He is accused of trafficking underage persons and having sex with a minor. In Sicily, one person is still missing and six are confirmed dead after the Bayesian yacht sank - we're looking into the questions faced by the investigators. But first, the latest from Chicago. | |

Credit: AFP | The controversial internet influencer Andrew Tate has been placed under house arrest by a Romanian judge, as prosecutors investigate new and serious allegations, including sex with a minor and trafficking underage persons. They had been released from house arrest a year ago and told not to leave Romania, over previous human trafficking charges. |

| | Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan appeared in court on Thursday afternoon. Prosecutors had asked the judge to remand the brothers in custody for 30 days while they continued a new investigation involving a total of 35 alleged victims, including a woman who was 15 at the time. A notorious misogynist with a giant online following, Andrew Tate has referred on Twitter/X to the case against him as some kind of mainstream "conspiracy" to silence him.
The influencer also made a furious statement to the press outside denouncing the case against him as a "stitch-up" and lies. "This is a set-up. It is absolutely disgusting. Thirty of those girls say we have done nothing wrong. Two are the mothers of our children, two have never even been here to Romania" he said. Asked repeatedly by the BBC about the allegations of sex with a 15-year-old girl and trafficking underage persons, he walked away and refused to reply. |

QUESTIONS ANSWERED | The key questions for sunk yacht investigators |
|
| | Five people have been confirmed dead and one is missing after the Bayesian sank off the coast of Palermo, Sicily. Credit: EPA | The body of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch has been recovered from the Bayesian yacht off the coast of Sicily, a source close to the family says. Five bodies have been recovered from the wreck of the boat, with one person still missing. Investigators have started to look into the circumstances of the tragedy, with many questions still unanswered. |
|
| | Was the keel up? And if so, why? | It's one of the key questions facing investigators. A keel is a large, fin-like part of the boat that protrudes from its base. Its bottom contains a huge weight to keep the boat stable. On vessels this big, keels are often designed to be retracted so it can dock in shallower areas - but the Bayesian was found at a depth of 50m (164ft), which suggests there was no reason that the keel needed to be retracted. Investigators will want to know whether the keel was “up, down or somewhere halfway,” says Jean-Baptiste Souppez, fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects | Could the crew have had foreseen the storm? | Captain James Catfield reportedly told Italian media that he couldn't have foreseen the storm. We do know that bad weather had been forecast beforehand, but the waterspout witnesses have described seeing is something else entirely. Waterspouts are similar to tornadoes, but form over water rather than land. And they are not something that the crew could have predicted. | What more do we know about the waterspouts? | According to the International Centre for Waterspout Research, there were 18 confirmed waterspouts off the coast of Italy on 19 August alone. But the chance of one striking a ship directly - as has been speculated here - is still very low. “The bottom line will be that even if there have been issues with keel or hatches being open, you are probably still looking at a freak weather accident,” says Mr Souppez. | | The latest: Searches are continuing for Mike Lynch's daughter Hannah, the final missing person after the tycoon's body was recovered on Thursday. Stalwart of UK tech: Friends and colleagues of Mike Lynch have paid tribute to the late entrepreneur. Here's what they said. Waterspouts: The tornado-like phenomenon could become more common as sea temperatures rise due to climate change, explains my BBC Weather colleague Matt Taylor. | |

THE BIG PICTURE | Who benefits from Lesotho’s ‘white gold’? |
|
| | | Lesotho's geography means it experiences a lot of rainfall. Credit: BBC | Lesotho, a mountainous country landlocked by South Africa, relies heavily on water for its economy. But much of it is funnelled to its water-scarce neighbour, while rural communities have no access to running water. Andre Lombard reports from the mighty Katse dam. But who is it for?

And finally... at the US-Mexico border | US border agents have intercepted a truck carrying more than $5m-worth of methamphetamine hidden inside a shipment of watermelons. The narcotics were stored in plastic bags painted in two shades of green to resemble the fruit. Would you have been tricked? Take a look. | |
