Andera Partners’ Gonzalo Boada: Spain has ‘great’ deal opportunities; Bridgepoint’s tender for Esker opens

Morning all, Craig McGlashan here with the Europe Wire from the London newsroom.

Private equity firms have been opening offices in Madrid to tap into the Spanish market. This morning we hear from Gonzalo Boada, whom Andera Partners has hired to establish its new site in the country, as he becomes the latest member of our Dealmakers to Watch series. Boada explains what makes Spain an attractive investment destination, as well as talking us through his career in private equity.

Next, we’ve got an update on Bridgepoint’s €1.6 billion take-private of Esker, a company in the ‘Office of the CFO’ market, a deal that also involves General Atlantic.

We wrap up with Stirling Square Capital Partners portfolio company Sustainable Agro Solutions (SAS) acquiring Pevesa Biotech’s agroscience division Pevesa Agroscience.

Spanish steps

Andera Partners has tasked Gonzalo Boada with establishing a new office in Madrid and shaping the Paris-headquartered investment firm’s private equity strategy in Spain – an important role, given the firm’s focus on cross-border buy-and-build strategies, writes PE Hub’s Irien Joseph. Joining Andera MidCap’s team as a director earlier this month, Boada’s rise has earned him a spot in PE Hub’s Dealmakers to Watch series.

Find out why Andera is betting on Spain as well as more on Boada's career in private equity in the premium version of the Wire.

Editor’s note: PE Hub has launched a new series of profiles called Dealmakers to Watch. We’re featuring private equity professionals as they pivot to new challenges, such as moving to a new firm, launching a new firm, getting promoted to partner, launching an investment strategy, closing a significant deal or some other new endeavor.

Local approach

Andera isn’t the only GP making a push in Spain. Capital Dynamics has also just opened a new office in Madrid.

Offer open

Bridgepoint’s take-private of Esker, a cloud-based company servicing the finance, procurement and customer service industries in the ‘Office of the CFO’ market, is moving ahead, with the tender offer opening today.

Carve-out

Stirling Square Capital Partners portfolio company Sustainable Agro Solutions (SAS) has acquired Pevesa Biotech’s agroscience division Pevesa Agroscience, a plant-based bio stimulant and fertilizer producer, from Kerry Group.

OK that’s it from me today. MK Flynn will be in the US chair later today and Nina Lindholm will be on Europe duty tomorrow.

Cheers,

Craig
