The Lunch Line: An officer-involved shooting. And the future of the Pelicans

By Bob Warren

DIY garbage: When the city opened a haul-it-yourself station as a quick fix during the garbage crisis, a common refrain was: "Who'd drive loads of rotting garbage to the dump in their own vehicles?" In the roughly two weeks the station has been open, it's seen nearly 4,000 visits and some 600 tons of garbage, city officials say. The station is closing Saturday, as the more traditional garbage pickup service finally catches up.

All about the Pelicans: Our deep dive into Gayle Benson’s succession plans for her professional sports teams continues with a look at what might happen to the Pelicans after she no longer owns the team. Jeff Duncan has the details and says predicting the team's long-term future in New Orleans is a tricky prospect.

(Here's what we've posted so far about the Saints' and Pelicans' succession plans.)

Police chase, gunfire: A police chase through the west bank of Jefferson Parish included gunfire and ended with one man injured, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said. Here's what we know.

Pay up: If you work for Ochsner Health you already know about the employee vaccine mandate. Now, employees with unvaccinated spouses or domestic partners on the system’s insurance plan will have to cough up an extra $100 per pay period.

But here's a way to make some money by getting the jab this month.

Soul Queen: Finally, if you're an Irma Thomas (and who isn't!) get ready for a treat. Actually two of 'em. Our music guy Keith Spera writes that a pair of Thomas documenteries are set to air soon. Get the details here.

Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today.
