Telecommuting MSPs: Strategies for a successful remote work program

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many employees were quickly forced to start working from home. Although the thought of staying in your pajamas and enjoying your own fresh coffee all day long sounds nice, it can be challenging for employees to set a structured workday while they are home. This article, although written under different circumstances, offers those of you who are now working from home as either a manager or an employee, some great advice on how to successfully transfer to a remote work model.

CMS allows same-day Medicare enrollment during COVID-19 crisis

In the time it takes to make a phone call, you can gain temporary billing privileges during the COVID-19 emergency that will allow your providers to begin treating Medicare patients almost immediately. In a clarification of enrollment flexibilities that CMS issued on March 23, the agency outlined several steps it has taken to expedite the enrollment process. Effective immediately, each Medicare administrative contractor (MAC) is equipped with a call center that physician practices can contact to gain temporary billing privileges for physicians and non-physician practitioners.

COVID-19 resources

As COVID-19 spreads throughout the U.S., MSPs face unique challenges to support their practitioners and keep patients safe. In response, we’ve launched an Acute Care Coronavirus response page that provides resources and solutions for hospitals and health systems as they navigate COVID-19. You can also visit our forum dedicated to COVID-19 discussions to ask your questions and share best practices with your colleagues.  Also, in an effort to fully understand the challenges your organization is currently facing as a result of COVID-19 and to ensure we’re delivering the right resources in the right format during this critical time, we ask that you complete this brief survey. Key survey findings will also be shared on our Acute Care Coronavirus Solutions Center.

Remote work guidelines
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations were quickly forced to have employees work from home, and they had to scramble to create remote work guidelines and support models. A remote work model requires policies and guidelines for staff and leaders so expectations can be communicated and enforced. Flexibility is a key benefit of working remotely, but so is maintaining structure. Although these guidelines are specific to Banner Health's CVO, they are a great starting point for creating your own remote work policy.

Avoiding clinical staff burnout during a rigorous EHR transition

At some point in your practice’s lifecycle, you may find the need to replace your current electronic health record (EHR) system. Your system could be outdated or ill suited for your practice, or you may be working with an unresponsive or unhelpful vendor. In any case, transitioning from one EHR to another is likely to be stressful, costly, and highly disruptive, and lead to physician and staff burnout during and after the process.
