I'm in lockdown in a hamlet of upstate New York that's in a little bit of a coronavirus freakout. Things had been under control until an outdoor graduation ceremony set off a second wave of COVID-19 infections. Needless to say, safety is the top of my mind right now.
Fourth of July cookouts are especially concerning. We're at the peak of grilling season, lured by sizzling burgers and slices of strawberry shortcake that tempt us to gather and celebrate. There are SO many fun dishes to show off (like ice cream cakes made out of ice cream sandwiches, which are absolutely blowing my mind). But this year, if you care about the wellbeing of your fellow humans, please take care. Wear a mask, avoid large gatherings, limit close contact with others outside your household (yes, even if you're outdoors!), stay at least 6 feet apart, wash your hands often, wear a mask, wear a mask and wear a mask.
But don't let that keep you from making it your most delicious weekend yet. We've got ideas below to help you do just that.
