Good morning, and welcome to the Tuesday, October 24 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. As you may have heard, things are not going great for the Saints offense. 'What are we doing?'You may have asked yourself that question watching the Saints latest clunker of an offensive performance in last week's loss to Jacksonville. And, if you did, you had a similar thought to a former NFL quarterback. Former Saints QB J.T. O'Sullivan didn't have a sterling playing career, but he does know what he's talking about when it comes to game film, and he had a tough time watching his old team operate last week. If you've got 45 minutes to spare, watch the video. And if you (understandably) don't, let our columnist Jeff Duncan walk you through the lowlights. Included in O'Sullivan's commentary: “It’s embarrassing film if I’m being honest,” O’Sullivan said after one play in the first quarter in which Carr screwed up a protection assignment. “What we are doing? … This is bad ball in the preseason, let alone bad ball Week 7 (of the regular season with) a veteran quarterback.” Help on the way Good news: Juwan Johnson looks like he's in line to play this week. If you remember our coverage from training camp, he looked primed for a breakout season. That didn't materialize before a calf injury forced him out of the lineup for four games, but maybe his imminent return can help this offense find some sort of rhythm. Heavy loadAlvin Kamara is really good, and he should be getting the ball a lot — just maybe not that much. Kamara has 104 touches in four games this season, which is putting him on pace to shatter his previous career high in touches despite missing the first three games of the season with a suspension. Coach Dennis Allen spoke Monday about why Kamara's output was especially high against Jacksonville, and why he hopes to spread out the work load a bit more moving forward. The Saints are off tomorrow, but we'll have more coming your way. Stay tuned, and thanks as always for your readership. Cheers, Luke Johnson |
