This is the story behind tiny cakes with big-time flavor A couple of weeks before Dennis and Carol Gregg opened Pastry Art Bake Shoppe in downtown Homewood, Dennis noticed a tray of bite-sized miniature cakes that his wife had just taken out of the oven. He asked his wife how she planned to price the teeny cakes. “I’m going to sell them for a dollar and a quarter each,” she said. Dennis did the math in his head and realized how many tens of thousands of Baby Bites they would have to sell to recoup their investment in the shop. Then he walked outside, plopped down on the sidewalk, and, he says, started to cry. He didn't think they were going to make it. But after 17 years in business, they’re doing just fine. And Carol still hasn’t said “I told you so.” Here’s the full story behind the famous Baby Bites and the Pastry Arts Bake Shoppe. |
