Good morning Voornaam, Pro tip: don't get sick during earnings season. You'll have a bad time. A bug did worse things to me yesterday than SENS announcements have been doing to Murray & Roberts. That's why Ghost Mail is practically a lunchtime edition today! Before we get into the company news, IG Markets South Africa has given us a helpful new article and video on understanding overbought and oversold trading conditions. Of course, the goal here is to identify potential market reversals and profit from them. You'll find it here>>> I'll keep it short and sweet when it comes to corporate updates, mainly because my bed is calling me. In company news, we've got a selection of smaller names on the JSE that have interesting stories to tell. For example, African Media Entertainment proves that radio still has a place. Over at Quantum Foods, despite a number of weird governance issues, profits have moved firmly in the right direction. Some of the other unusual names on the JSE that released news include Acsion, AYO Technology, Copper 360, Finbond, Mahube Infrastructure and PBT Group. You're really getting the full spread today. Among the more established names, we saw property earnings over at Fairvest and details on NAV growth at Reinet, with British American Tobacco doing the heavy lifting there in the past six months. Get all the details on these stories and (many) Nibbles in Ghost Bites here>>> For further company insights, check out the latest edition of Unlock the Stock, featuring agriculture group TWK. There's a lot to learn here about such a critical sector in the local economy. In case you're wondering, TWK is listed on the Cape Town Stock Exchange. You can watch the recording here>>> The next edition of Unlock the Stock features KAL Group on 5th December. As always, attendance is free! You simply need to register at this link to attend. For qualifying entrepreneurs looking for equity funding, there's a very important initiative called MIC Khulisani Ventures that you should take the time to learn about. Get all the details here>>> For something completely different to the world of listed companies, the latest Magic Markets podcast digs into alternative investments and an overview of 2024 through the lens of Westbrooke. In another update from the retail sector in the US, Abercrombie & Fitch (a company that is still executing a fantastic turnaround) has raised its full-year guidance based on expectations for a strong festive shopping season. This is despite the former CEO being arrested during the quarter on charges of sex trafficking, so people seem to have completely disassociated him from the brand. In the automotive sector, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has finally resigned. It's incredible that it even took this long. Earning an absolute fortune along the way, Tavares presided over a period of terrible sales in the US. If you can't sell Jeeps in the US, then you can't sell anything anywhere. Our latest research in Magic Markets Premium is on Intuit. With businesses like QuickBooks and MailChimp in the group, this is a great way to play the SME trend. It's just a pity about the valuation. Is Intuit doing enough to justify the high multiple? Subscribers find out this week. |

More protectionist utterances from newly elected US president Donald Trump have seen strength returning to the dollar, notably against emerging market currencies such as the rand. Trump has warned ‘BRICS’ nations against creating their own currency and moving away from the dollar, with threats of 100% tariffs from the world’s largest economy. The stronger dollar is weighing on metal prices, most notably precious metals. Oil prices have gained as Israel resumes airstrikes on Lebanon despite the ceasefire agreements in place. The softer dollar has helped prompt a rebound from oversold territory in both precious and base metals this morning.
Key Indicators: USD/ZAR R18.15/$ | US 10yr 4.23% | Gold $2,628/oz | Platinum $941/oz | Brent Crude $72.20 |
