Almost 7 years after 2016 floods, a fight over money

It has been almost seven years since a freak deluge inundated much of the Baton Rouge region, causing widespread damage and blaring a wake-up call about the need for better flood prevention infrastructure in our area. Billions of dollars flowed into the region both to aid recovery and to try and limit the damage from future floods.

But is the money being distributed fairly?

Leaders in several parishes say no, and at least one plans to sue over it. Here's what's going on, and why it could matter for hundreds of thousands of people.


For decades, the top leader of Baton Rouge schools made his or her annual job evaluations public. But the current superintendent, Sito Narcisse, chose not to do so.

He did, however, turn the documents over during his unsuccessful bid for the top job in Broward County, Florida. Here's a rundown of what the documents show, and here are the forms themselves and how to read them.


A local justice of the peace faces a 180-day unpaid suspension after Louisiana's Judiciary Commission found that he improperly worked undercover for the sheriff's office and intervened in a domestic violence case.
