Your Thursday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Oct 7, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening, As someone with first hand experience of anaphylaxis due to food allergy and well aware of the day-to-day minefield of eating anything pre-made, the new registry can’t come soon enough. The introduction of ‘Natasha’s Law' requires full ingredient and allergen labelling on all food made on premises and pre-packed for direct sale. The change follows the death of 15-year-old Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, from Fulham, who suffered a severe allergic reaction after eating a Pret-A-Manger baguette which contained hidden sesame seeds. The new rules will come as a huge relief to many, not least parents making food decisions on behalf of their children. It will also go some, if not all, the way toward overcoming attitudes towards these kinds of allergies, which can attract scepticism and a knock-on failure to take them seriously amongst those who have not experienced it themselves. The harsh reality is that if you don’t take them seriously, someone else could die. Regards, Nicola [email protected] | |
