When Jesus approached the Samaritan woman at the well, he did something unexpected—he crossed cultural and gender divides to make a connection and let one woman know she was worthy of a thriving life. When he appeared to Mary after his resurrection and tasked her with proclaiming the good news to others, he revealed that women were capable and their voices are valuable. It is Jesus' example that compels us at World Relief to support women and amplify their stories ?especially refugee women like Hana and Sona who are rebuilding their lives here in the U.S. HELP REFUGEES REBUILD THEIR LIVES Hana and Sona fled their home country of Iran to escape persecution. When they arrived in the U.S. World Relief helped them secure their first jobs as factory workers for Home Depot. Despite their strong work performance and praise from their supervisor, the sisters were eventually let go because neither of them could pass their English test. That's when Kara, a World Relief volunteer, stepped in. The women enrolled in an English class and Kara helped them study. After years of hard work, both women returned to school and today, they work in the medical field—something that had been a lifelong dream for both of them. At World Relief, we believe celebrating and empowering women is essential to creating lasting change in communities around the world.
