I spoke to some of NASCAR’s top team owners ahead of the season finale in Phoenix this weekend, and they all agreed on one thing: Nobody had ever seen anything like Ross Chastain’s wild move at Martinsville. His crazy, last-corner wall-riding insanity captured the world’s imagination as footage went viral. Even F1 drivers, not renowned for heaping praise on drivers from other series, voiced their admiration at not only Chastain's inspiration but his bravery and execution of the move. His reward is a spot in the Championship Four, and a shot at the coveted title along with Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott and Joey Logano. NASCAR didn’t ignore the move, but it has turned a blind eye to enforcing a rule change going into this weekend’s crunch race. It couldn’t happen again, could it?
