Nicola Sturgeon faces a grilling

Today the First Minister will get a chance to tell her side of the story on the events surrounding the Alex Salmond inquiry.

At a landmark hearing, Nicola Sturgeon gives evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Committee on the Scottish Government Handling of Harassment Complaints.

Her appearance follows that of her predecessor, Alex Salmond, last week, in which the former First Minister accused Ms Sturgeon of breaking the Ministerial Code by misleading MSPs about when she first learned of accusations against him.

The Scotsman View: First Minister’s fight for her political life

In her foreword to the 2018 edition of the Ministerial Code, Nicola Sturgeon noted that it “sets guidelines for living up to the seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership” and said she would “lead by example in following the letter and spirit of this code”.

"These are precisely the kind of values that the public hopes for in its leaders and everyone in public life, despite considerable scepticism about whether they are truly upheld", The Scotsman Leader column writes.

Ms Sturgeon has said that she is “relishing” the chance to give her side of the story. Expect her to come out fighting.
