Greetings from Carlsbad! 📰 Welcome to this week's Johnny Jet's Travel News. This is a round-up of all the stories featured in my Daily Travel Tip newsletter so if you prefer to get a daily newsletter or if you'd rather change your subscription to a weekly one, then click here. There was a ton of travel news this week but not much today so I've rounded up what I think are the top 10 news stories. Below, you will also find the top 12 travel stories from each day. 💺 Without a doubt, one of the big stories this week was the CEO of Southwest Airlines saying that the airline is considering premium seating options. Here's why and what I think is going to happen. 🤦 Two stories this week are worthy of a facepalm. First up, there's this one: ‘From dream vacation to nightmare’: American dad faces 12 years in Turks and Caicos prison for having four rounds of bullets in his bag. And then there's this one, about a husband taking his wife’s business class upgrade on their honeymoon. 💑 A really great story from this week is one I'm betting the mainstream media will pick up soon. It's a fun travel/love story about an American man who posted an application for a blind date to Japan and the Internet can't get enough of it. And neither can me and my wife. Here's the captivating saga. 📸 Attention Swifties: Get paid to see the Eras Tour in London with your BFF If you're not a Swiftie, I'm sure you know someone who is ... and if you do, you'll want to share this incredible opportunity with them. It's a job with Flytographer (you know, our favorite vacation photography company) that will pay you to see the Eras Tour in London with your best friend. Here are all the details. 🎢 As you can tell from the greeting and the photo above, we're in Carlsbad, California. It's just 90 miles from LAX and there's so much to do with kids, including Legoland and the Flower Fields, which we're about to go check out now. More soon! |

💺 Tuesday The free frequent airline perk that sometimes backfires When you read the headline of this article, you may have scratched your head, trying to figure out what the downside of being an elite frequent flyer could be. Is it the fact that you're not home very often to cultivate relationships or to see your kids grow? That’s one of them but it's not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about a free perk that sometimes backfires. |

💻 Wednesday This super cool portable device can save you boatloads of money when you travel The one thing I don’t like about cruising is that most ships charge an arm and a leg for WiFi. The same goes for airlines like American Airlines. I flew AA last week and they wanted $19 for just one hour of surfing time. Here's a brilliant way to save money on WiFi when you travel. |

🛄 Thursday My Clear strategy and why I’m not worried about the new California bill to ban it Since you subscribe to my newsletter, then you know I’m always touting fast-track trusted traveler programs as one of the best things to ever happen to travel. My family and I all have Global Entry, NEXUS, TSA PreCheck and Clear. However, Clear isn't always the quickest way to get through security. Here's what I do when I roll up to the airport. |

😴 Friday Is this the best travel pillow? I'm getting ready for a big European trip so I'm buying all kinds of gadgets. A couple of days ago, I mentioned that I'd ordered this portable router to save on WiFi. Today, I just packed what is supposed to be the best travel pillow in the world for economy passengers. I hate doing the head bob, don't you? I'm happy to report that a reader has this pillow and commented: "Slept 6 out of 9.5 hrs!!" |

Southwest Airlines does it again when flight attendant makes bride-to-be cry on flight to Austin If you’ve ever flown Southwest Airlines, you know just how special their flight attendants can be. They are some of the funniest and nicest in the air, which definitely contributes to the airline having such a loyal following. This deserved reputation only continues to be reinforced by the many videos shared online showcasing Southwest Airlines flight attendants being sweet, kind and thoughtful to their passengers. And yes … they’ve done it yet again! Here's the video and story.
LOL: Airport baggage carousel breaks down and workers send bags through the roof I don’t care how an airline gets me my bags, as long as they do it quickly and everything is intact. That’s why I can appreciate this viral video of baggage handlers at one of the Houston airports trying to get passengers their bags after I assume the carousel broke.
Eww: 'Mystery liquid' leaks from the bathroom, down the aisle on Spirit Airlines flight Horrified passengers watched (and took video) as a mystery liquid leaked from the bathroom and down the aisle on a recent Spirit Airlines flight. Watch the video here. |
