Good morning from Santa Barbara!

I hope you're having a great weekend. We're just about to hop in the car and drive home from a fun weekend trip. I will share my trip report next week but if you're looking for an excellent, family-friendly spot, I highly recommend Santa Barbara. To give you a quick preview, check out the photo above from the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

Speaking of Santa Barbara ... United Airlines just issued a travel waiver through May 5 for forecasted fog (it has been foggy in the morning but has been burning off by 11am). The waiver allows for voluntary changes for travel to, from or through SBA. United also issued a waiver for severe weather in NYC tomorrow. So if you're traveling to/from/via Newark (EWR), Kennedy (JFK), LaGuardia (LGA) or White Plains (HPN) you can change your ticket for free.

Airlines Really Don’t Want You to Know This
My nephew and I were driving the other day and he told me that the day before, United Airlines had involuntarily bumped him from his Palm Beach to New York flight. Involuntarily bumped means that the airline had too many passengers on the plane, either because of weight restrictions or, more likely, because they'd sold more seats than they have. This is a common practice since they bank on not everyone showing up ... plans change, people get sick or they miss a connection.

If you're involuntarily bumped, do you know what the airline owes you? You might be surprised but knowing your rights can really pay off. Literally! Read the story here.

True Statement: 'It’s So Crazy That Your Passport Expires Before it Expires' - Here's What Every Traveler Needs to Know
Every January, I make sure I make one of my Daily Travel Tips to remind people to go find their passport and look at the expiration date. If it expires within the year, renew it now. And every year, like clockwork, I receive multiple messages from readers, thanking me for this simple advice. I also recently wrote about how Americans’ demand for travel is much higher than normal so the U.S. State Department has issued a warning about passport wait times, to help you be better prepared. There's another very important thing that all travelers need to be aware of. Here's what you need to know.
