| AI in the Global South: Opportunities and challenges towards more inclusive governance Countries in the Global South—including those in Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean—have begun to capitalize on opportunities presented by artificial intelligence (AI) despite early development of those technologies being primarily concentrated in the West. Given the historical challenges that countries in the Global South have faced, AI stands to help advance progress in critical domains such as agriculture, health care, and education. However, rising concerns about deployment and ethics present new challenges for countries in these regions to address. In a new commentary, Chinasa T.
