This live video feed offers views of the Whitefish Point Light Station, sunrises over Lake Superior, freighters, incoming storms, and even the Northern Lights, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society announced on social media. If you like the idea of winding your day down with a relaxing walk, the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park is welcoming night owls. The park is opening up its offseason trails for evening treks during Hike the Lights each day from sunset to 10 p.m. |

After cannabis linked to higher stroke risk, Michigan doctor calls for more research |
Be aware: Health officials like neurologist Angelos Katramados, director of the acute stroke unit at Henry Ford Health, say a growing body of research should cause marijuana users to reassess the risk of consuming the plant. In a study published earlier this year in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers found daily consumers had 25% higher odds of heart attack, and 42% higher odds of stroke, compared to nonusers. Also in health: After a large summer wave of COVID-19 cases in the U.S., we’re now experiencing a slight dip. But doctors are expecting another spike this winter season as the new XEC COVID variant makes its way through Europe and has already been detected in the U.S. In Grand Rapids: A Michigan veterinarian was fined $35,000 and faces other penalties after an investigation involving over 41,000 pills, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten announced on Tuesday. |

Here comes Suzy Snowflake: Whether you are craving winter or dreading the season, we know it’s coming in a few months. The weather maps show winter is starting to take shape across Canada. The latest model run even shows a patch of snow next week in southern Canada. Michigan won't see snow for a while as we continue the warmer-than-normal weather pattern until early October. In the skies: You might not be able to see it without a powerful telescope, but Earth will get its own mini-moon for 57 days this fall as a big space rock known as 2024 PT5 cruises alongside us in a partial horseshoe-shaped orbit. The mini-moon is expected to be in Earth's orbit from September 29 until November 25, according to NPR. Pest control: State and federal agricultural officials confirmed a 13th county in Michigan with an invasive box tree moth infestation. Officials reported that the invasive pest insect was found in Lapeer County east of Flint. That discovery will expand an existing boxwood or box tree quarantine effort to now include the county in Michigan’s Thumb area. |

Saab to open a $75 million munitions plant in northern Michigan by 2026 |
Coming to Michigan: Saab, the Swedish defense and security company, is moving forward with plans to build a $75 million munitions plant in Grayling Township. The plant is expected to break ground before the end of the year and to be operational by early 2026. It will bring an estimated 70 jobs to the region with wages ranging from $23 an hour to more than $50 an hour, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. More jobs: Laepple Automotive expects to invest $93.4 million repurposing the Mount Elliott Tool and Die Facility in Detroit – a historic automotive stamping plant that was idled in 2018. The project is expected to create 173 jobs and establish the facility as Laepple’s U.S. headquarters. Another plant: California-based Mitra Chem is teaming up with Sun Chemical of New Jersey to establish a battery material manufacturing facility in Muskegon County, both companies announced recently. The project is expected to bring 150 jobs and receive $125 million in federal and state grant funding. |

No, officials aren’t stealing your votes in this northern Michigan community |
Business as usual: Officials with the Michigan State Police said a pair of people inside a Bay County township’s hall late Monday evening were there on official business and are dispelling rumors that they were tampering with voting equipment. In a controversial decision, deputies in Livingston County will monitor and document any contacts they have with immigrants lacking permanent legal status and report data back to county officials. Sheriff Mike Murphy told MLive/The Ann Arbor News that contacts could be suspects of crimes, victims, witnesses and people pulled over for traffic stops. Endorsed: The mayor of a Muslim-led Michigan city has endorsed former President Donald Trump, saying he believes the Republican nominee will end Israel’s widening war. Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib, a Yemen-born immigrant, announced the endorsement Sunday, Sept. 22, on social media. |

Adriana’s final hours: Details emerge in missing girl’s death at Ann Arbor high school |
| More details: Shortly before 11 a.m. the day she died, Adriana Davidson was dancing and laughing with a friend in the back of an Ann Arbor city bus. An hour later, 15-year-old Adriana would be in the same seat, alone, her head lolling forward as drugs in her system inched her closer to death. Her frozen body would be uncovered three days later. It has been nearly two years since Adriana, a Pioneer High School sophomore, was found dead Jan. 30, 2023 at the top of the bleachers near the Ann Arbor high school’s stadium. Recently released records have revealed more about Adriana’s final hours, why no one was charged in her death and how city bus employees were among the last to see her alive. On campus: Godwin Heights High School is the fourth school in Michigan where students can now receive healthcare in the same building they learn calculus, thanks to a new school-based health center now opening. |
