AFL-CIO: Workplace violence No. 2 cause of deaths on the job Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 5,190 people in the US were killed on the job in 2016, up from 4,836 in 2015, according to an AFL-CIO analysis. Workplace violence has become the second-greatest cause of deaths on the job, the AFL-CIO says, and a bill introduced in March would mandate a rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for health care employers to implement violence-prevention plans.
