NBN Co, the company building Australia's national broadband network, has commenced a trial of fibre to the distribution point (FttDP) (otherwise known as fibre to the curb) in the Melbourne suburb of Coburg.

Just as it is announced that the new Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models have hit the shelves in 25 markets including Australia, the Surface Laptop has been described by the tech website iFixit as a "glue-filled monstrosity" that cannot be repaired.

The ACCC has invited Australians to join a new programme that will measure and compare broadband speeds across the country.

Security firm Sophos Labs says it has found several popular Android apps in the Google Play store that contain a third-party library that keeps popping up ads even if the user tries to close them.
