Good evening,

If you are out Christmas shopping this weekend and perhaps planning to buy some festive baubIes for your home, I have some words of wisdom to offer you.
Do NOT follow the advice given by royal event planner Johnny Roxburgh.
While most of us were confined to our own four walls for the festive season last year, Mr Roxburgh is urging that we do not go mad and give in to the primeval urge to deck the halls with too much ‘tacky tinsel’ and flashing lights in 2021.
Apparently, the modern host will opt for a fake tree, or even better a wooden one, ‘floorscape’ their room (i.e. weave tinsel around your furniture) rather than decking the halls and ditch passé and ‘clinical’ white lights for colourful bulbs.
Quite frankly, the whole idea of listening to an ‘event planner’ when deciding on your decorations misses the entire point of Christmas. How you do up your house is entirely down to you.
Many decorations and traditions are inherited from previous generations and while they may not be ‘chic’ they are most certainly heart-warming and help to keep memories alive.
And isn’t that the whole point?

Until next time, take care
Gillian Parkinson
