Welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Friday, June 17. • Sure, we could start off with Saints minicamp, which wrapped up Thursday. But let’s start with helmets. The Saints announced they will wear a black alternate helmet at some point this fall. The team did not say how many times it will use the helmets this season, or for which games the Saints will wear the new black helmet — but the NFL cleared the way last summer for teams to add alternate helmets to their uniforms, beginning in 2022. Check it out here. • Saints coach Dennis Allen said that while Taysom Hill is still recovering from his Lisfranc injury, he has been present at the team facility this week during minicamp, and when he returns to the field he is still expected to serve his valuable role as a utility offensive player. More on Hill’s future role with the Saints here. • The Saints now have plenty of quality receivers on their roster. Kirk Merritt, a former Destrehan High star, wants to be one of them. But he’s also doing his best to shine wherever he’s needed. • Check back on NOLA.com this weekend for more on OTAs and the rest of the Saints offseason. We’re a little more than a month away from the start of training camp. Cheers, The Saints beat team (Jeff Duncan, Rod Walker and Luke Johnson) |
