A retired brigadier in the Australian Defence Force has been made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Dominating the front page of The Canberra Times 43 years ago were three pictures of an ACT police traffic supervisor's car equipped with its new $2800 Crash-Lite. The powerful beacon floodlight, fitted on the roof on the ACT police traffic-division supervisor's patrol car, was able to illuminate a radius of up to 16 metres and elevate itself above the roof of the vehicle by about three metres.
