AB Espresso: Should you ask for a pay rise?

Emaar Properties has unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art Music, Colour and Fire Plaza set to be located at Dubai Square, Dubai Creek Harbour. Strategically located near Dubai Creek Tower, the plaza will feature a blend of fire, vibrant color displays, and synchronised music. When the multimedia displays are inactive, the plaza will seamlessly transition into a welcoming public space, designed to encourage social interaction and engagement.

Meanwhile, Indian visitors to the UAE can now access a pre-approved visa on arrival, by Emirates Airlines and VFS Global or through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDFRA). Passengers are eligible for a 14-day single entry pre-approved visa to the country. The new process allows visitors to skip queues and simplifies the arrival process, allowing those who hold pre-approved visas to pass customs with ease.

In other news, as more of the world’s wealthy flock to Dubai, a new breed of entrepreneurs such as Pastor & Co. and Flying Flea Global enter the market to capitalise on the demand for ultra-luxury services – from real estate to private islands complete with a yacht dock and helipad.

Aside from this, in 2022, a video by TikTok user Kristopher Barsanti (@krisdrinkslemonade) went viral after he informed his boss why his work dropped off after being a top employee. Barsanti said he put in less than average effort as pay was rated “below the median” and deemed “fair market value” for his role previously. Barsanti’s video got a lot of praise from other employees who could relate to being underpaid, however, the question still arises – should you ask for a pay rise? If so, what is the best way to ask for one?
