AB Espresso: Ramadan in UAE begins today

The UAE has announced the start of Ramadan 2024. State-run news agency WAM confirmed that Monday, March 11 will be the first day of Ramadan across the UAE. The committee in charge of sighting the crescent in the UAE under the chairmanship of Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, congratulated the UAE leadership on the advent of the holy Month of Ramadan.

In addition, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the business hours of all services during the holy month of Ramadan 1445H (2024). The detailed RTA breakdown covers Customer Happiness Centres, paid parking zones, public buses, Dubai Metro and Tram, marine transport, and service provider centres (technical testing).

Aside from this, Dubai schools can offer remote learning on Monday, March 11 if they were damaged by heavy rain over the weekend, says the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). Unstable weather and heavy rain caused flooding, damage and disruption across the city on Saturday, with people advised to stay inside and traffic delays observed.

In other news, Dubai has launched two new cycle paths as it plans 1,000km of track connecting the Dubai Marina and Jumeirah to Al Qudra, Barsha and Nad Al Sheba. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated cycling tracks in Al Khawaneej and Mushrif extending 7km to connect with the existing tracks in the two districts, which already span 32km.

In Saudi Arabia, Aramco has announced the opening of “Aramco Marina”, its first marine station in the Kingdom to supply yachts and boats with fuel at the Jeddah Yacht Club on the Red Sea coast. The station, which bears the new identity of the Saudi Aramco stations brand, is operated as part of the company’s efforts to contribute to developing the tourism sector in the Kingdom and the region.
