AB Espresso: Dubai records 16.79mn tourists in first 11 months of 2024

Dubai’s tourism sector reported an increase in international visitor numbers, reaching 16.79 million from January to November 2024. This marks a 9 percent rise from 15.37 million visitors during the same period in 2023, according to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. Monthly figures include 1.77 million visitors in January, 1.9 million in February, 1.51 million in March, and 1.83 million in November, among others.

In other news, Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum announced the ‘Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme’ to support Emirati families in Dubai. The programme includes financial, social, and educational initiatives aligned with Dubai Social Agenda 33. It aims to double the number of Emirati families in Dubai by 2033 and enhance family stability and empowerment.

Aside from this, the UAE Government has issued a Federal Decree-Law to create a new Civil Defence Authority. The Authority will take over civil defence responsibilities from the Ministry of Interior and operate under the National Emergency, Crisis, and Disasters Management Authority. It will manage policies, alert systems, and coordination among federal and local entities for emergency response and disaster management.

In addition, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi has launched two bridges connecting Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street with Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street towards Musaffah. The AED315 million project aims to reduce intersection delays by 80 percent during peak hours and handle 7,500 vehicles per hour. Features include a three-lane flyover bridge, a two-lane bridge, and paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

Meanwhile, the Riyadh Metro completed its phased rollout with the opening of the Orange Line (Line 3) on Sunday, January 5. The line spans 41 km along Madinah Road, linking east and west Riyadh. This milestone follows the project’s inauguration by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman on November 27, 2024, making all six lines of the network fully operational.
