A wild LSU win and Lincoln Riley addresses his future

Ed Orgeron walked off the field in Baton Rouge as a winner in his final game as the LSU coach, and then Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley seemed to make clear that he won’t be Orgeron’s replacement.

It was a roller coaster of a night for the LSU faithful. 

Athletic director Scott Woodward is responsible for finding the next football coach, and it wasn’t all that clear who that may be as the regular season came to a close. 

Orgeron won’t lead the team into the bowl game, but he can feel good knowing that his players competed for him until the final minute of a 27-24 win over Texas A&M.

Offensive line coach Brad Davis is the man currently tasked, on an interim basis, with leading the players through preparations for the postseason. 

Much of the discussion inside the stadium Saturday night had to revolve around Orgeron’s successor, but the late touchdown pass from Max Johnson to Jaray Jenkins provided a welcome distraction for LSU fans.

The buzz centered around Riley, who was trolled Saturday night at Oklahoma State because of the growing speculation that he may be the Tigers’ next coach.

As of Saturday night, Riley seemed to kill that possibility.

If Woodward does indeed want to hire a big name, Riley would have been that.

There aren’t that many big fish left in the pond of available candidates.
