BY VICKI FERSTEL | Staff writer 'Wild ride' predicted on carbon capture: $49 billion in industrial projects have been proposed in Louisiana to make hydrogen, ammonia and other products — with the resulting greenhouse gas pollution to be stored underground. But people in rural areas are fighting those plans, and their representatives in the state Legislature have launched an effort to more strictly regulate or even block that carbon storage. The House Natural Resources Committee is expected to tackle some two dozen bills on the issue in a marathon hearing at the end of the month. Staff writer David J. Mitchell says the chairman of that committee predicts the meeting could be a "wild ride."
Entering the portal: LSU men’s basketball junior Tyrell Ward and redshirt junior Daimon Collins are among the six players to enter the transfer portal after the 2024-25 season. Staff writer Toyloy Brown III tells us where they're headed.
They don't often agree, but Democratic Rep. Troy Carter, of New Orleans, and Republican Rep. Clay Higgins, of Lafayette, came together over protecting Louisiana’s seafood industry from certain foreign imports. They introduced legislation to give the federal Food & Drug Administration additional powers to impound and destroy imported seafood found contaminated, adulterated or misbranded. Staff writer Mark Ballard notes that the FDA already has that authority; however, when inspectors deny entry for that food, some shippers try again at different U.S. ports. |
