Essence and vaccinations: If you’re headed to the Essence Festival, be prepared to show proof of vaccination. The city of New Orleans dropped its mask proof of vaccination mandates in March, but the company that owns the festival, which opens Thursday, has some of its own, Keith Spera reports. Clergy sex abuse investigation: There's word today that the FBI has opened a sweeping clergy sex abuse investigation in New Orleans. The Associated Press reports that the probe into allegations in the Roman Catholic Church has included interviews with more than a dozen alleged victims. There's more coverage here. Tennessee manhunt: The search for a man accused of fatally shooting a woman in New Orleans, then fleeing to Tennessee and shooting a police officer, came to an end this morning. BJ Brown was taken into custody around 7 a.m., the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said. Bridge City juvenile jail complaints: The Jefferson Parish Council has formally asked Gov. John Bel Edwards to close the Bridge City Center for Youth, the juvenile jail facility that has seen multiple breakouts and a riot in recent months. A number of nearly residents spoke during the council meeting this morning and said they don't feel safe.
