Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! A Time for Choosing View pictures from our visit here! A quality education can be an indicator of one’s success in America. Unfortunately, many kids in underserved communities are being left behind in the classroom simply because their zip code determines the quality of their education. Growing up in a low-income home, I attended four different elementary schools by the fourth grade and witnessed the need to give families more educational opportunities. This week, I kicked off my celebration of National School Choice week with South Carolina Education Superintendent Ellen Weaver for a tour of Charleston Classical School and Beautiful Gate Center in North Charleston. These schools' tailored approach to education empowers students to learn, free from the government's failed one-size-fits-all approach. As someone who knows firsthand the life-changing impact of a quality education, I will continue to fight to give more parents the choice my mother never had. Learn more about our visit here! Hands off our Gas Stoves The Biden Administration’s U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently proposed new rules which would restrict more than one-third of American households from using gas stoves. Families across the nation rely on gas stoves as a cost effective, convenient, and low maintenance alternative to electric ranges. The proposed regulations would eliminate cheap energy options under the guise of safety concerns despite evidence that gas stoves are a safe source of energy. I am fighting against this regulatory overreach to preserve affordable energy options for over 47 million American families. That is why I joined my Senate colleagues in sending a letter to the CPSC requesting transparency and answers about their plans to move forward with the proposed rule. Read the letter here. Spilling the #SCSweetTea on Local Development This week, I am spilling the #SCSweetTea on Dorchester County for exemplifying the economic development our state is known for. Their new and increased investments have allowed for record growth and opportunity—totaling more than $406 million in investments for 2022 and over 2,000 new jobs for the area! No wonder why so many families are choosing to move to our great state and call South Carolina their home! Read more on this development here! Sincerely, |
