She didn't seem to have a home, this sweet-faced, sweet-tempered Tortoiseshell, wandering my city neighborhood of three-story apartment houses. Her random mix of autumnal colors was edged with black, prompting a neighbor to say she looked like a burnt meatloaf. The unfortunate name stuck.

A woman down the block said she'd adopt Meatloaf but couldn't ever seem to find the cat when she went looking. So I was elated the day Meatloaf found me and followed me straight to the woman's door and went inside. Meatloaf had found her new home! (Keep reading)
