I typically start this with the words “Happy Friday.” Well, that’s not the case for the Oct. 21 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter as we recap the Saints 42-34 Thursday night road loss to the Arizona Cardinals. In Luke Johnson’s game story, he tells you what went wrong in the loss. The performance itself was embarrassing, as Jeff Duncan tells you in his column. Terrin Waack wrote about Andy Dalton’s tough game, which has been a familiar theme for him in prime time games. Here are the 3 things we learned about the Saints. Looking for something positive? Well, rookie receiver Rashid Shaheed made another big play. That’s all for today. Check our website today for more updates. Thanks for reading and enjoy the weekend. Rod Walker Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Wednesday, Oct. 19. The Saints travel to the desert today for their Thursday night matchup with the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz. It's a quick turnaround, which might be just what this team needs after their disappointing loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Here's what our coverage team produced for you today: Chris Olave cleared the league's concussion protocol procedures and will play against the Cardinals. The rookie receiver said he's "100 percent" and will "be ready" for Arizona, beat reporter Terrin Waack reports. More good news, rookie cornerback Alontae Taylor also expects to play as he returns from a knee injury suffered in practice four weeks ago. Taylor was designated to return from the injured reserve list and returned to practice on Tuesday, beat reporter Luke Johnson reports. The final injury report for Thursday's game was a lengthy one, with 14 Saints players and 13 Cardinals players listed. One player not listed is rookie left tackle Trevor Penning, but Luke Johnson reports that he is progressing from his preseason foot injury, a positive sign for the Saints' injury-riddled offense. I broke down the 30-26 loss to the Bengals and showed how the Saints' injuries affected their game plan on both sides of the ball. The team's lack of firepower showed on offense and defense in our weekly Saints re-watch file. |
