A Puff of Magic From Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Magic of Dogs By Lesley Belcourt Acquiring a dog may be the only time a person gets to choose a relative. ~Author Unknown I have decided that nothing happens by chance. I am sure of this because of how Puff and I met one hot Saturday afternoon. I was about to go into the music store on Whyte Avenue when I saw her standing in front of the entrance. As I moved toward the door, she suddenly flopped down on the ground and lay still, exposing a smooth pink belly. "That dog has heatstroke," said a man behind me. I bent down and picked her up. She was more puppy than dog and lay like a baby in my arms, staring up at me with large, trusting eyes. I opened the door and walked inside. "Do you have some water I can give this dog?" I asked.
