Jail time: A former lawman is headed to jail. Chad Scott, the former star federal narcotics agent known to drug traffickers as the “White Devil,” was sentenced this morning to 13 years behind bars after his conviction on corruption charges.
Protesting masks: Last week, a large group of parents descended on the St. Tammany School Board to tell the board to defy the state order requiring masks in schools. School Board members don’t appear ready to try that. The parents are expected to try again tonight. (Some background: Tammany COVID cases are surging and doctors are worried.) Stay tuned for continuing coverage.
‘Rows of patients’: Wanna know what it’s like inside area hospitals as they fill up with COVID patients? Our Emily Woodruff and Chris Granger spent a recent day at Ochsner Medical Center watching the weary staff work to keep COVID patients alive.
‘Ju and Chan’: OK, here’s a fun one. Juwan Johnson, who is trying to make the New Orleans Saints roster as a tight end, and his wife, Chanen, have carved out quite the career on social media. Known as @JuandChan, they have some two million TikTok followers. Our Julian Sorapuru spent a recent afternoon with them and has this story.
Also in the news: The state stopped issuing unemployment checks to around 150,000 residents this week. And we'll get new population data when new Census data drops later today. All this and much more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW
