A golden hour hideaway and star-studded ShakespeareIntroducing St Clare Coffee & Bar.
Meet your new after-work drinks spotPsst! Here's an under-the-radar place not many Londoners know about: a hidden coffee bar and floral garden terrace, tucked away close to the City. Open 7am-11pm, with a menu spanning speciality coffee, cocktails, small bites and main meals, St Clare Coffee & Bar is whatever you want it to be. Need somewhere relaxed for remote working? Grab a latte and get plugged in. Catching up with friends? Make plans for lunch or dinner, soaking up the floral decor and (hopefully!) the sun in the private, outdoor space. The location is very handy too: you'll find it on the ground floor of Canopy by Hilton London City, close to the City of London and Liverpool Street, as well as attractions including the Tower of London, making it an ideal spot for after-work drinks, or refreshments after a day of sightseeing. Head to St Clare Coffee & Bar on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings from 5pm for Sunset Sessions. Stop in for a quick drink, or settle in and make a night of it. The bar turns into a golden-hour hideaway, with live DJs creating a buzzing atmosphere, and a curated cocktail menu (we recommend the coffee cherry negroni). Quick bites such as mini chicken tandoori skewers and salt and pepper squid are available too, and with main meals such as beer battered hake and chips, and grilled beef sirloin, you'll be tempted to stick around for dinner. Copyright and choreographyCan a dance move belong to anyone? Choreographer Jeremy Nedd’s latest work, from rock to rock, is based on The Milly Rock, a viral dance move inspired by rapper 2 Milly's copyright lawsuit against a video game company. See Nedd's London debut at the Southbank Centre, 23 and 24 July, featuring five dancers exploring the hidden poetry in viral dance moves. A rooftop speed dating partySick of endless swiping? Your Friend, My Friend to the rescue! Ireland’s leading singles events company makes its UK debut on 18 July, with speed dating followed by an afterparty at NYX Hotel London Holborn’s rooftop bar, The Glasshouse. Enjoy 18 five-minute dates, or just swing by for the afterparty, for more organic encounters. (Ladies’ tickets now sold out!) A multi-generational memoirWhen Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, London-based Ukrainian chef Olia Hercules decided to tell her family’s story. Her new memoir takes readers through years of Russification, Olia’s grandmother’s deportation to snowy wastelands, her aunt’s school protest, and her own 2022 flight from Ukraine. Strong Roots: A Ukrainian Family Story of War, Exile and Hope via our Bookshop.org storefront. Star-studded Shakespearean tragedyOthello comes to the West End this autumn, and it’s sounding rather starry indeed. David Harewood (Homeland, Best of Enemies) plays the eponymous military commander opposite Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs the Post Office, Detectorists) as the Machiavellian Iago, with Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession, Masters of Sex) taking on the roll of the doomed Desdemona. Plus, it includes music by PJ Harvey. London’s most romantic restaurantsLooking to wine and dine someone special? We’ve got it covered.
