First, Tommylee Lewis. Now, Kwon Alexander. The Saints love their homecomings. Everyone hoped and expected it to happen, but when the news of Kwon Alexander's re-signing with the Saints broke on Tuesday it still created a stir among teammates and the fan base. The former LSU standout quickly became a fan favorite last year before a season-ending injury Achilles tendon injury cut short his season. His return should theoretically bolster a defense that suffered heavy attrition this offseason because of salary cap cuts and free-agent departures. Alexander wasn't the only linebacker making news on Tuesday. Rookie Peter Werner met with the media for the first time in camp and explained how he's trying to master "the mental game" in his first NFL season. Another young player making a positive impression early in camp is wide receiver Jalen McCleskey. The former Tulane standout has opened eyes with his sprinter's speed and "absolutely" has a chance to make the Saints roster, according to one of his coaches. Unfortunately, the news wasn't all good. A pair of players left practice with injuries, including a key offensive playmaker. And it wasn't the sharpest of days for either of the Saints veteran quarterbacks in their competition to win the starting job. No one should get too worked up about the performance. Remember, the Saints defensive players were the ones making life rough for Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. That's the glass-half-full approach to camp! Wednesday should be a big day. The Saints will again be in full pads and the action is expected to intensify on the field, so make sure you check out all of our coverage and updates at NOLA.com throughout the day.
