The Lunch Line: A driveway shooting in Destrehan. And what's up at Palace Café?

By Bob Warren

Driveway shooting: Wild story out of Destrehan Tuesday evening, where an apparent traffic incident escalated into a shooting on an Ormond street. Authorities were still sorting things out, but said a 51-year-old man was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. And onlookers said the 78-year-old man who shot him was taken away in handcuffs. Our Michelle Hunter has been following the story.

Released: A 75-year-old Angola inmate sentenced to life in prison as a teen for fatally shooting a deputy has been recommended for release. Henry Montgomery’s case played a central role in the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in 2016 that juveniles cannot be sentenced to life in prison without the chance for parole.

What's up at Palace Cafe'? One of the city's most popular restaurants has remained closed since Hurricane Ida. But fear not, Palace Cafe' fans. Our restaurant guy Ian McNulty writes that there are big plans for the Canal Street eatery. (Try saying that one three times fast!)

Crowdfunding: Since 2007, teachers in Jefferson Parish public schools have crowdfunded more than $2 million worth of supplies for their classrooms. Two million. The teachers say in times of diminished support from school districts, the crowdfunding is a huge help. But the School Board in Jefferson might soon hammer out some regulations.

Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today.
