The Front Page: A day after Ida, a region takes stock, prepares for long road ahead

By Chad Calder | Staff writer

The sun rose Monday on a city and region vastly changed from the day before, revealing the path of destruction sown by Hurricane Ida as it moved slowly through the metro area the day before. You can find our round up of the storm's immediate and long-term consequences here, and we have estimates of how long it will take to restore power and why, and the extent of the damage wrought by Ida's wind and rains. We've got additional stories from New Orleans, in Jefferson Parish and in St. Tammany.

The experience for residents who rode out the storm in and around the city was harrowing, and some living in low-lying and coastal areas endured even greater hardship, with St. John the Baptist Parish, Lafitte and Grand Isle the site of rescue operations. St. Charles was left reeling as well.

Even more great work from our photojournalists can be found here.

Thanks for starting your day with us.

RESCUE AND RESOLVE

Stranded residents rescued from Ida flooding in LaPlace: 'The rain just wouldn't stop'

Lesia Landry kept watching the water rise in her LaPlace subdivision.
