Happy Friday! As we head into the weekend I wanted to share a quick but powerful question from Harvard Business School professor Clayton M. Christensen. It might seem simple… But it stands to determine the entire trajectory of your life and business. Here it is: How will you measure your life? At the end of the day… When it’s all said and done and your time on this crazy roller coaster of life has come to an end … What really mattered? How will you measure your contribution, your decisions, and your actions? Christensen, like myself, states that the key to answering this question is to get clear on the values that matter most to you and your vision for the future… And then allow those two things to determine every decision you make. For example… My fiance Michelle and I value family above everything else. Which is why we decided to drive home from Florida -- through Detroit -- on a moment’s notice when we learned that her grandfather is sick. Her parents didn’t want us to come (because of the horror stories they’ve heard about Detroit). We’ve been stuck in a hotel room with no WiFi for the better part of a week as we ride out our mandatory quarantine. And this decision made every part of our lives and businesses much more challenging than they would have been if we’d stayed in sunny Miami. But none of that matters. Because for us, family is first. And making sure that Michelle gets to see her grandfather is more important than any risky drive, lost profits, or government-fueled headache we have to deal with. Our values and vision drove our decision. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. Over to you my friend... How will you measure your life? Take some time this weekend to think deeply about this question. Because once you find the answers, everything else becomes a whole lot simpler. Success loves speed, Craig |
